Woman with Anxiety

Some Anxiety is Normal...

Some anxiety is normal. Anxiety is a normal reaction to stressful situations, and some anxiety can even be good, as it indicates to us that there is something that requires our attention and can motivate us to take action. After a stressful situation, our bodies should return to their pre-anxiety space. The problem comes in when our minds are perceiving excess threats and stress which can leave our bodies in a constant state of fight, flight, freeze or fawn. At this point treatment should be sought.

How We Help

Dealing with Anxiety requires work both inside the counselling office and out. The journey is often non-linear with good days and bad days. When our clinicians treat anxiety they take time to get to know you and your specific circumstances. Anxiety is normalized and we work together to create goals and a plan of action to get you to a place where you are enjoying life again.

Some areas we may address in our work together include:

  • Working on managing anxiety through relaxation and grounding techniques

  • Addressing self talk

  • Recognizing any negative core belief systems

  • Communicating healthy boundaries

  • Creating strategies for when you are struggling

  • Considering the "Authentic Self" and addressing any people pleasing or perfectionistic tendencies

These skills will, over time, help reduce symptoms as we work to understand the underlying cause of the anxiety and work to create more balance.
